Studio Assistant Role

STUDIO ASSISTANT

We are looking for a super organised studio assistant to join our small team for 6 months on a part-time basis, to work with us in preparation for our AW23 collection. We are looking for someone who can support the creative director in various areas of the business, including: design assistance, sampling, pattern cutting, supervising interns, logistics, and general studio admin. This is a multi-role position, where you will work directly with the founder/ CD, therefore we are looking for someone who is extremely organised, reliable, professional, a good problem solver, and who has previous experience in a similar role in a Fashion studio. This role would be ideal for a recent graduate with 6 months - 1 year internship experience.

 

Specific duties include:

 

Sampling and fabrication:

  • Sewing samples and final pieces from the collection
  • Developing and sewing swatches of finishings
  • Tracing and altering patterns
  • Grading patterns (training will be provided)
  • Preparing tech packs and tech drawings

 

Admin:

  • Supervising and coordinating interns
  • Ensuring the studio runs smoothly and is properly resourced, making sure IT, cleaning, utilities, stationary/packaging, etc, are up to standard/ stocked, identifying problem areas and solutions according to the studio budget
  • Coordinating local couriers and international shipping of samples and project materials

 

Other duties:

  • Support in wholesale events such as showrooms, and pop-ups, to increase brand awareness and sell-through
  • Supporting backstage during our show/ presentations
  • Other studio/ show related duties might be required from time to time

 

We’re a very small team, so you will need to be able to work independently from time-to-time, with some evening and weekend work required during busy periods. Whenever late work is required, we always compensate for those hours, allowing for time off at a less busy time. Busier periods include: 1 month before Fashion week, and 1 month before Christmas. Extremely busy periods, where evening work is required include: 2 weeks before Fashion week.

 

Requirements:

 

  • 6 months - 1 year experience working at a similar Fashion studio
  • Excellent sewing skills
  • Very good understanding of pattern cutting
  • Very good technical drawing skills
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Professional demeanour at all times
  • Confident working independently and productively as a member of a collaborative team
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel)
  • Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • Flexibility in working hours to support during our busiest times
  • Able to prioritise important tasks during fast-paced periods
  • Available to work during the evenings close to Fashion Week if required


Desirable:

 

  • Passionate about size inclusivity
  • Great understanding of the Fashion industry and its current landscape
  • Good understanding of the different roles involved in the production of a fashion show
  • Experience working to a Critical Path
